Peer Review Process

The publication of articles in the SYNERGY: Jurnal Bisnis dan Manajemen depends solely on scientific validity and coherence as assessed by our editors and/or peer reviewers, who will also assess whether the writing is understandable and whether the work is a beneficial contribution to the field. SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management recognizes the efforts and suggestions made by its reviewers. 

Initial evaluation of manuscripts

The Editor will first evaluate all manuscripts submitted at a maximum of 3 weeks' time. Although rare, it is entirely feasible for an exceptional manuscript to be accepted at this stage. Those rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, or are outside the aims and scope of the SYNERGY: Jurnal Bisnis dan Manajemen. Those that meet the minimum criteria are passed on to expert reviewers for review. It usually took up to 8.

Type of peer review

manuscripts will generally be reviewed by two to three experts who will be asked to evaluate whether the manuscript is scientifically sound and coherent, whether it duplicates the already published works, and whether or not the manuscript is sufficiently clear for publication. The method is blind peer review.

Review reports

Reviewers are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript:

• Is original by stating the objectives and gap clearly
• Is methodologically sound
• Follows appropriate ethical guidelines
• Has results/findings which are clearly presented and support the conclusions
• Correctly references previous relevant work
• Reviewers are not expected to correct or copyedit manuscripts. Language correction is not part of the peer-review process.

Decision

Reviewers advise the editor, who is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the article. The Editors will reach a decision based on these reports and, where necessary, they will consult with members of the Editorial Board. The editor’s decision is final.

Publication Ethics

SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management (2777-0346 (online) | 2777-0354 (print) is a peer-reviewed journal published by Pelantar Press. This statement clarifies the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing articles in this journal, including authors, editor-in-chief, Editorial Board, bestarial partners, and publishers. This statement is based on the COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of an article in Insight has gone through a peer-review process: SYNERGY: A Journal of Business and Management is an important building block in the development of a coherent and respected knowledge network. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. Therefore, it is very important to agree on the expected standards of ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: authors, journal editors, bestary partners, publishers, and the public.
Pelantar Press as the publisher of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management takes its trusteeship over all stages of publishing seriously, and we recognize its ethical and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, or additional commercial revenue have no impact or influence on editorial decisions.

Publication decision

The editor of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management are responsible for deciding which articles to publish. The validity of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers should always drive the decision. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by applicable legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism. Editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making these decisions.

Fair play

An editor at any time evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest 

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not use in an editor's research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Peer-Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer-reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also help the author in improving the paper.

Promptness

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review must be considered as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorised by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Peer-review process should conduct objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Peer-reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument reported should accompany by the appropriate citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer-review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Peer-reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Authors

Reporting standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Originality and Plagiarism

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original actions and if the authors have used the works, or words of others that this has appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication

An author should not, in general, publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same paper concurrently to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be provided. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the article and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

Research Involving Human Subjects
Authors must state that investigations involving human subjects, human material, human tissues, or human data were conducted in accordance with the rules of the Declaration of Helsinki of 1975 (https://www.wma.net/what-we-do/medical-ethics/declaration-of-helsinki/), which was amended in 2013. Before conducting the research, a clearance from the local institutional review board (IRB) or other suitable ethics committee must be acquired, according to point 23 of this statement, to ensure that the study complies with national and international criteria. The project identification code, date of approval, and name of the ethics committee or institutional review board must all be provided in the article's Section 'Institutional Review Board Statement.'

An ethical statement can look like this: "Before taking part in the study, all subjects expressed their informed agreement to be included. The research was carried out in conformity with the Declaration of Helsinki, and the protocol was approved by the XXX (Project identification code) Ethics Committee."

All participants in non-interventional studies (such as surveys, questionnaires, and social media research) must be thoroughly informed about whether anonymity is guaranteed, why the research is being undertaken, how their data will be used, and whether there are any risks involved. Prior to conducting the study, ethical approval from an appropriate ethics commission must be acquired, as with all human research. If ethical approval is not necessary, authors must either obtain an exemption from the ethics committee or cite local or national legislation stating that this type of study does not require ethical approval. If an exemption has been obtained for a study, the name of the ethics committee that approved it should be listed in Section 'Institutional Review Board Statement,' along with a detailed explanation of why ethical approval was not necessary.

Plagiarism and Retraction Policy

The Editorial Board of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in an article submitted for publication in SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management will use Turnitin authenticity checking software as our tool in detecting similarities in text in articles. A maximum of 25% similarity is allowed.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves "the use or closure of imitations of the language and thoughts of other authors and their representation as a person's original work."

Policy:

Papers must be original, unpublished, and not awaiting publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from other sources must be clearly identified as distinct from this original text by (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source. Any text with a number that exceeds the fair use standard (here defined as more than two or three sentences or equivalent) or graphic material reproduced from other sources requires permission from the copyright holder and, if possible, the original author and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publications. When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the review of this paper and will approve measures according to the level of plagiarism detected in the paper in accordance with the following guidelines:

LEVEL OF PLAGIARISM

Minor: Brief passages from other articles are plagiarized without significant data or ideas taken from other papers

Action: A warning is given to the author and a request to change the text and correctly cite the original article is made

Intermediate: Most papers are plagiarized without citations that match the original paper

Action: Submitted articles are rejected and authors are prohibited from submitting further articles for one year

Severe: Most papers are plagiarized which involves reproducing original results or ideas presented in other publications

Action: The paper was rejected and the author was banned from submitting further articles for five years. It is understandable that all authors are responsible for the content of the papers they submit because they all read and understand the Copyright and Licensing Terms of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management.

If a penalty is imposed for plagiarism, all writers will be subject to the same penalty. If a second case of plagiarism by the same author is identified, a decision on the action to be enforced will be made by the Editorial board (Editor-in-Chief, and Editorial members) with the Editor-in-Chief. Authors are prohibited from submitting further articles indefinitely.

This policy also applies to material reproduced from other publications by the same author. If an author uses text or images that have been previously published, the corresponding paragraphs or figures should be identified and the previous publication referenced. It is understandable that in the case of review papers or papers that are tutorial in nature many of the previously published material.

Authors must identify the source of previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and publisher. If an author submits a manuscript to SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management with significant overlap with a manuscript submitted to another journal simultaneously, and this overlap is found during the review process or after the publication of both papers, the editors of the other journal are notified and the case is handled as a severe case of plagiarism. Significant overlap means the use of identical or nearly identical numbers and identical or slightly modified text for half the paper or more. For plagiarism itself of less than half of the paper but more than one-tenth of the paper, the case should be treated as intermediate plagiarism.

If plagiarism is limited to the methods section, this case should be considered minor plagiarism. If an author uses some previously published material to clarify the presentation of new results, previously published material should be identified and differences for this publication should be mentioned. Permission to republish must be obtained from the copyright holder. In the case of manuscripts that were originally published in the conference process and then submitted for publication in SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management either in an identical or expanded form, the author must identify the name of the conference process and the date of publication and obtain permission to republish it from the copyright holder. The editor may decide not to accept this paper for publication.

However, an author is allowed to use material from an unpublished presentation, including visual displays, in subsequent journal publications. In the case of a submitted publication, which was originally published in another language, the title, date, and journal of the original publication must be identified by the author, and copyright must be obtained. Editors may accept such translated publications to attract the attention of a wider audience. Editors can select specific papers that have been published (e.g. "historic" papers") for republication to provide a better perspective of a series of papers published in one edition of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management. This republication must be clearly identified and the date and journal of the original publication must be provided, and permission from the author(s) and publisher must be obtained.

The layout editor of SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management for Journals is responsible for maintaining a list of authors who are subject to penalties and will check that no authors of papers are submitted in this list. If a banned author is identified, the layout editor will notify the Editor-in-Chief who will take appropriate action. This policy will be posted on the website with instructions for submitting manuscripts, and copies will be sent to authors by confirmation email upon initial receipt of their original manuscript.

RETRACTION AND/OR CORRECTION OF THE AUTHOR

It is not recommended to withdraw submitted manuscripts after they have been in the publication process (review, copy, layout, etc.). So far, SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management has spent valuable resources in addition to the time spent in the process. If under any circumstances the author still requests a withdrawal, the author must pay every effort made in the manuscript process in the amount of Rp. 500,000,. Paid upon official request from the author in an email sent to the editor SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management using the same email address used in the correspondence.

SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management will consider withdrawing publications if:

• They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of behavioral errors (e.g., data creation) or honest errors (e.g., calculation errors or experimental errors)
• Previous findings have been published elsewhere without proper cross-reference, permission or justification (e.g. cases of over-publication)
• That is plagiarism
• It reported unethical research

SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management will consider issuing a statement of concern if:

• They accept inconclusive research evidence or publication errors by authors
• There is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the author's agency will not investigate the case
• They believe that the investigation into alleged violations related to the publication has or is not, fair and impartial or conclusive
• An investigation is underway but the assessment will not be available for a considerable period of time

SYNERGY: Journal of Business and Management will consider issuing a correction if:

• A small fraction of publications that are declared reliable are proven to be misleading (mainly due to honest errors)
